Who We Are
Our Ecosattva Sangha is a special type of Zen practice group. We are a non-local affinity group, representing and supporting different sanghas, all drawn together by our shared love of the natural world, and concern for its future.
We believe that environmental destruction is one of the most pressing issues of our time. Accelerating damage due to climate change, destruction of our natural resources, and pollution of our air, water, and land, all threaten irreversible harm to the planet that supports all life. Recognizing that we are inseparable from the earth that supports us, we feel that it’s not only important, but necessary, that we live our lives in ways that honor this interdependence.
Our primary mission is to discover ways to extend our practice into actions that honor our interdependence with the Earth. In service of this commitment, we are dedicated to:
- Serving as a catalyst and support for environmental initiatives at the local level
- Developing an Environmental Code of Ethics to inform our behavior
- Promoting environmentally sensitive practices for our sesshin
- Taking a stand on environmental issues when appropriate
